Hornbæk is a Danish seaside resort in the north of the island of Zealand on the Kattegat . It belongs to the Helsingør municipality .

Hornbæk has 3,581 permanent residents (2008). In the summer months, however, the place accommodates up to 35,000 vacationers. There is a train connection to Helsingør and Gilleleje .

Hornbæk is known for its fishing and marina and elegant summer houses. When spa tourism flourished, the glamorous Trouville Hotel was built in 1896 . The original building burned down in 1966, and from 2002 the hotel was converted into a holiday complex with luxury apartments ( Residence Trouville ). Of the old bathing hotels, only Hornbækhus from 1904 still exists today , completely in the Swedish classical style.

history

Hornbæk developed from a simple fishing village in the 19th century. Around 1870 Hornbæk was visited by many artists, such as Kristian Zahrtmann , PS Krøyer , Viggo Johansen , Carl Locher and Holger Drachmann .
