Polled Hereford beef
The polled Hereford cattle ( English : Polled Hereford ) is a polled cattle breed that was first bred in Iowa , USA .
It is very closely related to the Hereford cattle , which takes its name from the town of Hereford in the west of England . It was a genetic mutation that was found in some animals of the Hereford breed. These cows had polled offspring, which were crossed with each other again. This is how the polled Herefords were born.
Warren Gammon, a young cattle farmer from Iowa in the USA , devoted himself to the idea of polled Herefords and started herdbook breeding with eleven innately polled cattle. Today the polled Herefords and Herefords are grouped under the "American Hereford Association" in the USA.
The polled Hereford cattle are valued for their pronounced forequarters, their depth and muscling, their good-natured temperament, the fast-growing calves and good meat quality.
