The horned moray ( Muraena melanotis ) is a species of moray eels (Muraenidae) that occurs mainly in tropical areas of the eastern ( Cape Verde , Mauritania to Namibia ) and western Atlantic .
features
The animals are usually up to 80 and a maximum of 140 centimeters long and have numerous light yellow spots on their head, back and flanks on a brown-violet basic color, which are smaller on the head and front body than on the rest of the trunk, so that a reticulated pattern is created. There is a large black spot around the gill opening. The belly is yellowish in color.
Way of life
They prefer a water temperature of 24–26 ° C. It prefers to feed on small fish, shrimp, clams, octopuses, giant campi and lobster.
