Coat of arms of those of the Horst

Von der Horst is the name of a mailing nobility from the Hanover area , which was ennobled in 1786 through a renewal of the imperial nobility.

It is to be distinguished from the noble noble family “ von der Horst ”, which also lived in the Prince Diocese of Osnabrück .

history

The family first appeared in the principality of Osnabrück in 1641 with Erdwin von der Horst, who was in Swedish service, and with whom the family line began . He had probably come to the Osnabrück region with the Swede Gustav Gustavson and, after the expulsion of the bailiff Herbord Telkamp, he was appointed bailiff in Gehrde (Amt Vörden) as the prince-bishop of Münster in Wildeshausen .

The descendants of Erdwin von der Horst produced different hypotheses regarding the origin of the family. Today we can assume that Erdwin was the grandson of David von der Horst, who was captain of Nienburg an der Weser around 1581. Until 1841 a major von der Horst was still in possession of the Peterstorf estate near Oldenburg in Holstein .

Status survey

According to the register of arms of the flourishing nobility of the province of Schleswig-Holstein, the family was raised to imperial nobility by King Leopold in 1658 . A corresponding confirmation of the elevation to the imperial nobility could not be confirmed by the aristocratic archives in Vienna, but the nobility renewal in Vienna on August 29, 1786 for Johann David von der Horst zu Neustadt am Rübenberge, his widow and his son Erdwin is documented.

coat of arms

The coat of arms shows a blue pole in silver. On the helmet with blue-silver covers a golden column, on it an open golden basket, equipped with red and silver ostrich feathers.
