Horst Geicke

Horst Joachim Franz Geicke (* 1955 in Hamburg ) is an entrepreneur , investor and functionary of German origin who has lived in Hong Kong and Vietnam since the 1980s . In Hong Kong he is a co-founder and partner of the Pacific Alliance Group as well as the recurring chairman of the German and European Chamber of Commerce Abroad. In Vietnam he is among other things investor and CEO of the German House in Ho Chi Minh City and is known as co-founder and CEO of the VinaCapital Group.

Life

Geicke studied business administration and commercial law at the University of Hamburg and moved to Hong Kong in 1981 , initially to be commercially successful with export-oriented production companies in China . Later he concentrated on a commitment as an investor, where he worked in the real estate sector, for example. B. worked with Richard Li .

In Hong Kong, Geicke founded the Pacific Alliance Group (PAG) in 2002, one of the largest investment companies in Asia , of which he is now a partner. He also runs the Hong Kong Wine Vault , one of the largest wine warehouses in Asia, with others .

In Vietnam , Geicke was one of the first foreign investors . In addition to market launches such as for BMW (Euro Auto), he founded the VinaCapital Group in 2003. The company is now one of the largest Vietnamese investment and real estate companies and regularly launches funds, with the former Vice Chancellor Philipp Rösler as Chairman of the Advisory Board of VinaCapital Ventures .

Also in Vietnam, Geicke is an investor and chairman of the German House in Ho Chi Minh City , which he initiated as part of a bilateral government agreement between Germany and Vietnam. The building complex, which was inaugurated in 2019 by the German Federal Minister of Economics and others, consists of two towers, had an investment volume of approx. 130 million euros and, in addition to well-known companies and organizations, is also the location of the German Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City. The centrally located property was acquired by the federal government in 1960 for "diplomatic purposes" but was never used. Geicke received the right to erect the towers in the 2010s and developed the concept with the Vietnamese authorities and German federal ministries. Geicke had previously acquired expertise through the purchase of federal real estate in Asia.

Commitment as a functionary

Geicke has been involved in associations, chambers and foundations for many years. He is or was chairman of the European and German Chamber of Commerce Abroad in Hong Kong and has or had other functions in other organizations, such as the founder and board member of the  Hong Kong-Thailand Business Council  or the President of the  Hong Kong-Vietnam Chamber of Commerce. In Vietnam he founded the VinaCapital Foundation , which is involved in the social field, for example by financing heart operations as a late aftermath of the Vietnam War ("Heartbeat Vietnam").
