The German House Ho Chi Minh City is a building complex in District 1 of Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam that was completed in 2017 . The 25-storey building complex was initiated as part of a bilateral government agreement between Germany and Vietnam, sets standards for energy efficiency "made in Germany" and is the location of the German Consulate General as well as other institutions and companies, as a cultural and economic hub for German representative offices to act in Vietnam.

history

After a German house in Ho Chi Minh City was mentioned for the first time by the German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier in 2008, the construction project was decided in 2013. Chancellor Angela Merkel assessed the building permit as an "important symbol" of the further rapprochement between Germany and Vietnam. According to her, the German institutions represented in Ho Chi Minh City and interested German companies should have their joint headquarters in the German House. The official laying of the foundation stone took place in October 2015 in the presence of German, international and Vietnamese guests from politics, society and business. Also in 2015, the project was awarded the Vietnam Property Awards as "Best Office Project" and "Best Ecological Construction Project" in Vietnam.

In 2016 the German House received the South East Asia Property Awards 2016 as “Best Green Building Development” in South East Asia.

In November 2016, the topping-out ceremony took place in the presence of Federal Foreign Minister Steinmeier.

In September 2017, the opening took place in the presence of the Vietnamese party secretary for Ho Chi Minh City Nguyễn Thiện Nhân as part of a soft opening .

The German-born CEO of the owner company, Horst Geicke , sees the German House as the main address for German, Central European and global companies and investors in Vietnam and ASEAN .

Since September 2018 there have been three buddy bears in the lobby of the German House, symbolizing the bond between Germany and Vietnam and their motifs showing different aspects of the German-Vietnamese relationship.

Construction and ecology

The German House is being built by the German architects' office gmp according to a design by the architects Meinhard von Gerkan and Nikolaus Goetze .

German house under construction

The architectural concept is intended to express Germany's role as a leading industrial and technological nation through transparency and structure, economic construction and energy efficiency. According to the Federal Ministry of Economics, the building will set benchmarks for energy efficiency and ecological building standards in Vietnam by using ecological building materials in combination with the latest technologies from Germany.

A double facade is adapted to the climatic conditions of the country and should make a significant contribution to energy savings. A glass facade signals openness to the urban environment.

The two different heights and interlocking parts of the building are connected by "glass joints". An arcade will open the high-rise building in the ground floor zone to both street fronts and connect the entrance areas with the various foyers and usage areas.
