Richard Li

Richard Li , Tzar Kai ( Chinese  李澤楷  /  李泽楷 , Pinyin Lǐ Zékǎi , Jyutping Lei 1 Zaag 1 gaai 1 , Cantonese  Li Tzar Kai ; born November 8, 1966 in Hong Kong ) is a Canadian entrepreneur. He is chairman of the board of the PCCW holding, chairman of the investment group Pacific Century Group and board member ( English non-executive director ) of the Bank of East Asia in Hong Kong.

Life

Richard Li is the younger brother of Victor Li ( 李澤 鉅  /  李泽钜 ) and one of the two sons of the multi-billionaire Li Ka-shing . Li first graduated from St. Paul's Co-educational College in Hong Kong and at the age of 13 went to California , where he attended Menlo School in Atherton , one of the wealthiest communities in the United States . There he worked at McDonald’s and as a caddy on the local golf course . Li began studying computer science at the local private Menlo College , but dropped out after three years without a degree.

In the 1980s he also acquired Canadian citizenship .

In 1991, he borrowed $ 250 million from his father to start StarTV, which he later sold to Rupert Murdoch for $ 950 million . With the proceeds he founded the Pacific Century Group investment group in Hong Kong in 1993. Li is the majority owner of a skyscraper in Tokyo's Marunouchi business district .

In 2006, he donated Canadian dollars 1 million to the National Arts Center in Ottawa for a mentoring program for young musicians.

In 2009, he acquired the asset management company of the American International Group for around US $ 500 million .

He was in a relationship with the singer Isabella Leong and has a daughter and twin sons with her.
