Horst Gerlach (politician)

Horst Gerlach (born August 16, 1919 in Lötzen ; † December 16, 1990 in Leer ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After attending the state high school in Lötzen, Gerlach worked in his parents' business in 1936/37. He did Reich Labor Service in 1937/38 , then military service, and from 1939 to 1945 he participated in the Second World War as a soldier in the Navy .

After the end of the war, Gerlach took up a job as an administrative clerk in the labor administration. He passed the second administrative examination, worked as a branch manager at the employment office in Wittmund from 1947 to 1949 and in the same position at the employment office in Aurich from 1949 to 1953 . Then he became head of the placement at the employment office in Leer. From 1980 to 1983 he was a social attaché at the German Embassy in Rome .

Political party

Gerlach was a member of the SPD and was elected deputy chairman of the SPD sub-district Weser-Ems in 1947 .

MP

Gerlach was a council member of the city of Wittmund in 1948/49 and from 1956 to 1961 a council member of the city of Leer. From 1961 to 1976 he was a member of the district council of the district of Leer .

He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1961 to 1976. He was always drawn into parliament via the state list of the SPD Lower Saxony .

From 1966 to 1977 he was also a member of the European Parliament .
