Horst Sellentin

Horst Sellentin (born September 14, 1922 in Berlin ; † May 10, 1973 ) was a German baritone and choir director .

biography

Sellentin began at the age of 10 with piano lessons with Ernst Zahn, Berlin. At the same time he learned to play the cello with chamber musician Paul Erdmann. Sellentin studied composition (conductor Carl Thomas), cello (Erdmann) and piano (Steinbrücker) at the Mohr Conservatory in Berlin. During his military service, he attended a military guest study at the Vienna Conservatory for cello (Lenz), singing (Geyer) and conducting (Victor Keldorfer). After being wounded in the very last days of the war, he was sent to the hospital in Lübeck . The wounding of the right arm prevented a career as a cellist. Therefore he took private singing studies with Adele Bähnke in Lübeck.

From 1946 he appeared as a singer (baritone) as a soloist and in a choir on the city stages of Lübeck.

From August 1946 Sellentin was a singer in the choir of the Nordwestdeutscher Rundfunk, Hamburg (later NDR).

In 1960 he founded the boys' choir of the Norddeutscher Rundfunk Hamburg together with Max Thurn and was also its director. After the boys 'choir was taken over by the main church St. Nikolai am Klosterstern, Hamburg, Sellentin directed the Hamburg boys' choir, now known as St. Nikolai , until 1971.
