Horst Siegel (cyclist)

Horst Siegel is a former German cyclist who was active in the GDR in the 1950s .

Athletic career

Horst Siegel started for the company sports community (BSG) Vorwärts in Lichtenstein in 1950 and won the first Lichtensteiner criterion that year . He was able to repeat this success in 1953 and 1955. In 1951 he moved to BSG Dwigatel Wismut Chemnitz and was GDR runner-up in the individual road race. As a member of the GDR national team, he took part in the GDR tour in 1951, where he came in 30th. In the following three years Siegel started the GDR tour for the sports association Wismut and finished 29th (1952) and ninth (1953). During the 1954 tour he retired early. The 1953 cycling season was the most successful for Siegel. In addition to his good placement in the GDR tour, on which he wore the yellow jersey of the front runner on three stages , he was with the BSG Dwigatel Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt team in the 100 km time trial . He also won the traditional one-day race around Leipzig . In 1954 Siegel drove his last major races, but remained unsuccessful in both the GDR championships and the GDR tour.
