Horst Werkle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Horst Werkle (* 1950 in Stennweiler ) is a German civil engineer and professor emeritus at the Konstanz University of Technology, Economics and Design .

Life

Horst Werkle studied civil engineering at the University of Karlsruhe from 1968 to 1973 . From 1974 to 1981 he worked as an assistant at the local institute for concrete and reinforced concrete with Fritz Peter Müller .

In 1981 Werkle received his doctorate with a topic on subsoil dynamics ( a boundary element for dynamic finite element calculation of three-dimensional subsoil models ). From 1981 to 1989 he worked in the construction industry.

In March 1989 he was appointed professor for structural engineering at the University of Konstanz for Technology, Economics and Design (HTWG). He dealt with structural mechanics (finite element calculations in structural engineering) as well as structural dynamics (earthquake dynamics , person-induced vibrations, soil dynamics). From 1991 to 1996 and from 2005 to 2014 he was department head or dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering. From 2002 to 2014 he was Scientific Director of the Institute for Applied Research (IAF) at HTWG Konstanz.

From 2006 to 2016, Werkle was a member of the board of the Civil Engineering Department (FBT) and its chairman from 2009 to 2015. He retired in August 2017.

Horst Werkle has lived in Allensbach on Lake Constance since 1989 and has a daughter and three sons.
