Christian Petersen (born October 26, 1931 in Garding ) is a German engineer and professor emeritus at the University of the Bundeswehr in Munich .

Life

Christian Petersen grew up on the Eiderstedt peninsula and studied civil engineering at the Technical University of Munich from 1952 to 1957 , where he received his doctorate in 1966 ( contribution to the practical calculation of cylindrical barrel shells with a variable radius of curvature ). He habilitated in 1971 and in 1976 the C-4 - Professor at the University of the Bundeswehr Munich appointed.

Christian Petersen has lived in Ottobrunn since the 1960s and has two grown daughters.

In his retirement, Petersen continues to devote himself to many topics, such as the natural sciences, for example. The book series "Natural Sciences in Focus", which he wrote and published in 2017, deals with the fundamentals of mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology as well as with mechanics, astronomy and cosmology. The series gives the reader an introduction to the natural sciences at a demanding level, according to the spine of the book. The fifth and last volume contains questions of biology in the context of evolution and religion, and asks philosophical questions, such as that of theodicy, from today's perspective.

Petersen's areas of work are structural engineering , steel construction and structural dynamics . For this purpose, he published three monographs, which represent a brilliant encyclopedic summary and technical-scientific foundation of these three areas of knowledge. His scientific work was recognized in 1998 with an honorary doctorate from the Technical University of Braunschweig and in 2000 with the German Steel Construction Award. In 2013 a completely revised and updated version of his standard work on steel construction was published in the fourth edition. .
