Horst Wilhelm (singer)
Horst Wilhelm (born November 24, 1927 in Berlin ; † around May 14, 2000 in Hamburg ) was a German opera singer ( lyric tenor ) and actor .
Life
Wilhelm sang in Berlin church choirs as a child and in the youth choir of the Berlin radio as a teenager. During the Second World War he was taken prisoner as a soldier towards the end of the war.
From 1947 after the end of the Second World War, Wilhelm received vocal training from Götte at the music academy in his hometown of Berlin before he began in 1951 at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, where he was employed as an opera and oratorio singer. In 1956 Wilhelm moved to the opera in Kassel before the lyrical tenor joined the ensemble of the Hamburg State Opera from 1962 to 1973. Other places where Wilhelm worked were Bayreuth, Vienna, Munich, Glyndebourne and Zurich.
Wilhelm's repertoire of operas and operettas include The Postillon von Lonjumeau , Der Freischütz , Tsar and Zimmermann , Orpheus and Eurydice , The Marriage of Figaro , The Magic Flute , Don Giovanni , Der Freischütz , Undine , The Barber of Seville , The Love Potion , Cavalleria rusticana , La Bohème , Mignon and Carmen . He also worked internationally as a concert singer and performed several times in front of film and television cameras with his vocal skills. His last place of work was Lübeck, where he has been teaching as a teacher at the local music college since 1973. According to a report in the Hamburger Abendblatt, he should not have died there, but in Hamburg.
