The Hospital of the Holy Spirit in Zahna , part of Zahna-Elster in the district of Wittenberg , was founded in 1336 by Duke Rudolf I of Saxony-Wittenberg and is now a cultural monument .

In 1547 the hospital burned down . Then it was rebuilt together with a chapel and its own farm buildings with the support of Duke Moritz von Sachsen . In 1637 the hospital burned down again due to fighting. It was not until 1754 that a follow-up building to the hospital that had been destroyed in the Thirty Years War was built as a Bohemian Baroque building. The current collegiate chapel was built in 1878, from 1906 to 1907 the institution building was expanded and the current state of development was achieved.

The hospital building on Jüterboger Straße served as a home for the elderly, in which local people in need were given accommodation and board.

In 1997 the retirement home was closed and converted into a support foundation. The foundation is still committed to its original purpose of helping the elderly .
