The Hotel-Restaurant Zum Schwarzen Baren is located among others in a heritage-listed ( list entry ) building in Austrian Emmersdorf on the Danube .

history

The historical building is a property first mentioned in the 16th century. The name Whärzhaus Zum Schwarzen Peern has been documented since 1608 . The name could actually come from the bears that lived in the forests at that time. The house still bears this name today.

In the chronicle it is described as a ship master's house. The rooms on the ground floor served as a feeding place and sleeping place for the grooms. A curved kitchen hose provided space for a table for twelve, a stove and modest household items. Adjacent to this was a bedroom for a maximum of eight grooms.

There is evidence that the kitchen dining area was also used by raftsmen, boatmen and guards who were out and about in the Danube region. Most of the space was reserved for the stair horses that pulled the ships upstream and were changed here. The dining room is located in this room with a ribbed vault from the 16th century.

On the first floor there were two rooms for the host family and business premises for the salt and iron trade. The trade in the precious goods was good business for Emmersdorf with its two ship landing stages on the Danube. Organized guards, usually four to six men from the village, guarded the ships docked in the alluvial forests at night.

present

The listed building has been owned by the Pritz family for more than 100 years . Since 1980 five buildings have been connected to form a hotel. The historical facades have been completely preserved.
