Old theater in Heilbronn-Sontheim

The Old Theater Heilbronn (formerly Gasthof zur Sonne ) at Lauffener Straße 2 in Heilbronn 's Sontheim district is a cultural monument . The inn with hotel and hall has been used culturally for a long time.

history

The building was first mentioned in 1677. In 1720 a new building was built on the same site. A renovation took place in the first quarter of the 19th century.

The building once housed the Gasthof zur Sonne . In the so-called Sonnen-Saal from 1897, which was later expanded several times, the first Heilbronn theater performances after the Second World War took place in 1946. From 1949 the hall also served as a cinema. In 1991 a fire broke out in the building, after which it was renovated and used as a variety theater , restaurant and hotel Altes Theater . The Bulling couple, who last operated the facility, shifted the focus away from the variety show to cabaret and a crossover between music and contemporary theater. Around 600 events took place from 2006 to 2013. In-house productions such as Yasmina Reza's art were also shown. The owners Bulling closed the house in June 2013 and put it up for sale. Instead of running their own house, they would like to focus solely on the production of stage plays and television formats in future.

The new owners continue the cultural business with a mixture of theater and concerts.

The building is a two-story plastered building with a gable above the entrance. The walls of the doors and windows are decorated with wedge stones . The building has a profiled eaves cornice . It is an example of the transition from baroque to classicism.

In the building there is an event hall with seats for 180 guests. The house also has 14 rooms and an apartment for the tenant. The usable area is about 1000 square meters.
