Hotel Deutscher Kaiser (Nuremberg)
The Hotel Deutscher Kaiser in Nuremberg is a historic building that was built from 1888/1889 in the historicizing Nuremberg style and still houses a hotel today.
It is a "stately building that is one of the most artistically successful buildings in the newer Nuremberg". It was built in the Nuremberg style according to plans by the architect Konradin Walther , professor at the Royal School of Applied Arts with the help of Peter Behrens . The two facades were designed in Nuremberg red sandstone. The architect limited his stylistic borrowings to the Nuremberg Renaissance around 1600 as a characteristic feature of the building. In the middle zone of the high gable is a Madonna figure made of red sandstone on a console, which is crowned by a canopy. It was designed by Adam Kraft around 1490 .
On the ground floor there was a public restaurant for the guests of the hotel and for the citizens of the city. Above it was a mezzanine floor, the owner's apartment and a bathroom for the guests of the house. Above it were the 44 hotel rooms with 66 beds. The construction costs amounted to 190,000 marks. The hotel and its building are still owned by the family today. The interior of the house was renovated in the early 1990s, and the exterior facade as well in 2000/2001. Today the hotel has rooms and suites as well as conference rooms and a restaurant .
