The Hotel Erzherzog Rainer is a four star - hotel in the 4th district of Vienna Wieden .

history

The hotel was founded by the imperial and royal court supplier for picture frames, Leopold Nedomansky, who switched to the hotel trade. The Wiedner Hauptstrasse location seemed ideal to him due to its proximity to Karlsplatz and the State Opera . The building was built in 1912 based on designs by the architects Hans Glaser , Karl Scheffel and Alfred Kraupa, and the opening was celebrated in 1913.

In a certificate, the original of which can be seen in the hotel lobby, the most serene, Archduke Rainer , allowed the hotel to bear his name.

In the 1920s, the hotel had many prominent guests. His restaurant "Rainer Diele" was considered a meeting place for the Viennese society .

After a turbulent wartime , in which a bomb strike in 1945 partially damaged the building, the hotel served, among other things, as quarters for Russian officers. In the post-war period, guests from all over the world soon returned, such as Theodor Körner , Carl Orff , Toni Sailer and Thomas Mann .

In the 1970s and 1980s, the then owner, Peter Nedomansky, was also active as a representative of the Vienna tourism industry. At that time, the hotel's alley was named Wiener Wirtschaft .

In 1994 the hotel group of the Schick family (see Hotel Stefanie ) took over the Hotel Erzherzog Rainer .
