history
The hotel was opened in November 1887 under the contractor and restaurateur Carl Kämp and according to the plans of the architect Carl Theodor Hoijer . It quickly became an important meeting point for important contemporaries from politics, business and art. The painter Akseli Gallen-Kallela , the composer Jean Sibelius and General Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim were among the loyal guests.
In autumn 1965 the hotel was rebuilt and then served as an office building for Kansallis-Osake-Pankki (today Nordea-Bank ) . The facade and large parts of the interior were completely renovated.
In autumn 1996, the Merita Group, as the owner at the time, decided to extensively renovate the building and to run it again as a hotel. The house should regain its original splendor. The legendary Hall of Mirrors was rebuilt in its original style. In 1999 the hotel reopened as a member of the Starwood Hotels "Luxury Collection".
