The Hotel Rix was a hotel in the upper town of Luxembourg . It was on 20 Boulevard Royal between Arsenal Street and Avenue Monterey.

history

The villa in which the hotel was located originally belonged to the Saur-Koch family , who ran the “Grand Garage Saur” on Boulevard Royal.

The banker Ernest Vander Linden bought the villa on February 10, 1921 for 195,000 francs and moved in with his family.

Ernest Vander Linden also used the villa for his banking business under the name “Buying and selling center for Luxembourg securities without a stock exchange listing” or “Centrale d'achat et de vente des valeurs luxembourgeoises non cotées en Bourse”.

Later the villa was the seat of the Belgian and Czechoslovak consulates .

The "Villa Vander Linden" had a dining room with a large south opening, a large salon , a smaller salon, an office , a bathroom , a reception room and a kitchen on the ground floor . There were 5 rooms each on the first floor and in the attic .

In 1957 the Rix family acquired the villa and opened a restaurant, which later became a 4-star hotel. to open a restaurant; later it also became a 4-star hotel. In 1963, the architect Paul Retter added several floors.

The hotel was closed in 2012 and demolished a year later. Today there is a new building on the site, which was designed by the architect Christian de Portzamparc .
