from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hotel zur Post is a hotel built in 1889 in Bremen-Mitte on Bremen's Bahnhofsplatz .

history

In 1889, the innkeeper Johann Heinrich Christian Schaunhorst converted building no.11 on Bahnhofsplatz into a hotel, named Hotel zur Post . Almost at the same time, the Überseemuseum was built from 1893 to 1896 , closing off the square at right angles.

Georg Lünsmann acquired the hotel in 1932. The innkeeper Fritz Rößler had the flourishing inn Zum Hakepeter on Bahnhofsstrasse . He bought the hotel in 1938.

The building was destroyed in the Second World War . Initially, the hotel set up two accommodations with 90 beds in the two bunkers in the Bürgerpark Bremen on Parkallee . From 1946 a hotel in Hohenlohestrasse with 66 beds was in operation. From 1952 to 1953, the Hotel zur Post was rebuilt at the old location according to the plans of the architects Günther Gengler and Heinz Höft. Today the eight-story hotel had 77 beds in addition to the restaurants on the ground and first floors. Further expansions, additions and modernizations followed.

The hotel rose to the great houses of the city. One restaurant, the L'Orchidée (in the Bremen Ratskeller since 2002 ), was awarded one star in the Michelin Guide from 1989 to 2010 .

Current situation

After the takeover by the hotel cooperation Best Western , the now four-star hotel has 174 rooms with around 350 beds.
