House of Night

House of Night is an American book series by PC Cast and their daughter Kristin Cast . The vampire - Dodekalogie is published by St. Martin's Griffin , and revolves around Zoey Redbird, a sixteen year old girl who has just become the "Young Vampire" and the boarding of the House of Night in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The series' books were on the New York Times bestseller list for 63 weeks and sold more than ten million copies in 39 countries worldwide.

House of Night

The House of Night is a boarding school for young vampires that is run worldwide. This story is about the House of Night in Tulsa. Normal subjects are taught in a House of Night (literature, Spanish, horse riding, fencing, acting, drawing or an introduction to music). There is also the subject of vampire sociology. At the Tulsa House of Night, it is taught by Neferet. The teachers make sure that the young vampires are always in physical health, otherwise they can die. Because of this, there are few sweet things to eat. In addition, the sports subjects, such as horse riding and fencing, should keep the young vampires physically fit. The Tulsa House of Night has two "living quarters", one for the boys and one for the girls. There is a common room and kitchen in both wings. The young vampires have breakfast there and have the opportunity to have snacks between meals. In the living quarters there are also the rooms in which two young vampires usually live. All young vampires are drawn with a blank, sapphire blue crescent moon on their foreheads. This is a sign that the respective young people have to go to the House of Night. Another sign is that the adolescents are feeling bad and, for example, they get a cough. The young vampires can only stay away from the full-grown vampires for a certain period of time, otherwise their bodies refuse to change and they die, which, by the way, can happen during the whole school period at the House of Night. It is a question of the strength and strength of the body, whether it can survive the change or not. However, after such an unsuccessful case, school quickly returns to normal. Because a grieving young vampire can also die. When a young vampire dies, his belongings are immediately removed from his room. However, his roommate can keep some of his belongings as a memento if so desired.

There are four grades in total at the school:

Nyx

The vampires and young vampires walk the paths of the goddess Nyx , she is the goddess of the night. Sometimes Nyx gives gifts to her daughters and sons (that's what she calls the vampires and young vampires). These gifts can consist of being perfect at something (e.g. a sport) or having an affinity for something (e.g. an element, animals). Nyx's greatest gift to her children is free will, Nyx never again withdraws gifts she has given. Seldom does Nyx even appear as a vague figure in the books in the House of Night.

The 5 elements

A young vampire rarely gets an affinity to one of the 5 elements (air, fire, water, earth, spirit). In this way they can "control" their element or draw strength from it. In addition, the elements are conjured up in a circle during full moon rituals. A vampire represents an element, but does not necessarily have to be affine to it. The "elements" and belief in the goddess Nyx are similar to the Wicca religion.

The sons of Erebos

Consisting of vampire warriors, they fight for the high council as well as for Nyx. In Tulsa, Dragon Lankford is their leader until he dies and Kalona takes over his duties. In Zoey's circle of friends, Darius and Stark belong to the warriors of the Nyx.

The daughters of darkness

You are an honorable and important organization, consisting mainly of students from the last two years. You stand up for school and the vampires. Your leader is trained to be a high priestess, so she has to represent the school with heart, soul and spirit and later become involved as a leading personality in the vampire society.

The House of Night books are about 16-year-old vampire Zoey Redbird, who comes to Tulsa's House of Night after being drawn by a “scout”. It soon turns out that Zoey is not a normal young vampire. The powerful vampire goddess Nyx has given her special gifts, and with the help of her friends Zoey becomes the leader of the "Daughters of Darkness" after the previous leader Aphrodite misused her own gifts. But soon scary things happen in the House of Night, which the headmistress and high priestess Neferet leaves cold. Inexplicably many young vampires and teachers die in the House of Night, and the city is often threatened. In the course of the following books, Zoey Redbird has to deal with many, often nasty, surprises. Together with her friends, she fights against the dark-infested creatures and vampires. filming

In 2008, the Variety reported that a film version of the series was being planned. The film rights were owned by Empire Pictures and the screenplay for Drawn was written by Kent Dalian , who also wrote the screenplay for the film Fish in a Barrel . The release date was then dated to 2016. Later, the production company Davis Films was able to secure the film rights.

In October 2019, it was announced that Don Carmody and David Cormican, producers of Shadowhunters , would be adapting the books for television.
