House of Tales , complete name House of Tales Entertainment GmbH was a German manufacturer of computer games based in Bremen , which is characterized by point-and-click - Adventures made a name.

history

House of Tales was founded in 1998 by Tobias Schachte and Martin Ganteföhr , who previously developed learning adventures for children in the Terra-X universe for ZDF . The company's first product, The Secret of the Druids , was released in 2001 via cdv . At that time it was unusual that all company activities were carried out decentrally and online instead of using a central office space. In 2003 the company was converted into a GmbH. In 2008 House of Tales was bought by dtp entertainment , but initially remained an independent development studio under the new parent company. At the end of 2009 there were tensions between the management of House of Tales and the dtp management due to "creative differences" regarding the future direction of the studio and the poor sales figures of 15 Days . As a result, Schachte left the company in January 2010 and moved to a Bremen company as head of system technology; Ganteföhr left in March. At that time, the company headquarters of House of Tales was moved by the owner dtp from Bremen to Hanover, where another dtp studio, Cranberry Production , was located. A little later House of Tales was integrated into the Cranberry team, which meant the end of the studio.

In December 2014 the Swedish publisher Nordic Games acquired the rights to the adventures from House of Tales. Since then, the games have been available again as part of a digital distribution . The brand name "House of Tales" was registered in February 2017 by an escape game provider for a game room in Berlin.
