In 1999 the company was renamed dtp entertainment AG and entered the computer games market. The dtp in the name stands for digital tainment pool .

Shoebox

Shoebox (in German: Schuhschachtel ) was a publishing label from dtp entertainment and the Egmont subsidiary Egmont Interactive . The Shoebox logo showed a red box with two eyes peeking out.

As early as the end of the 1990s, dtp was working on the publication of computer games with the Egmont Interactive company, and so Sanitarium - Der Wahnsinn ist in Dir , The Longest Journey and a PC game about Sailor Moon were published on the German-speaking market. As a result, a cooperation agreement was concluded in 2000 in order to expand the joint cooperation even further and to set up a joint game label.

In March 2001 the founding of the label with the name Shoebox was announced and on March 15th Gothic , which was developed by the Bochum Phenomedia subsidiary Piranha Bytes , was released, the label's most successful PC game.

At the same time, Shoebox was supposed to be a quiz game on the hit TV show Who Wants to be a Millionaire? publish, for which it was announced on March 16, 2001 that it would not appear after all. According to Gamesweb, probably because the rights were held by Eidos Interactive .

In September 2001 Egmont Interactive announced surprisingly that it would cease business activities on September 30, 2001. At the same time it was assured that the games offered by Egmont Interactive, such as Gothic and Demonworld 2, will in future be distributed by dtp. As announced on November 8, 2001, the joint brand Shoebox will be continued by dtp.

In the following years, however, only a few games appeared under the Shoebox label , such as B. the cycling manager 2003/2004 and his successor for the 2004/2005 season.

Children's software, entry into the console market and bankruptcy

Dtp entered the children's software market in 2001 with the horse & pony series . For this purpose, the sister company dtp young entertainment GmbH & Co. KG was founded in 2004 , which specialized entirely in games for children, young people and families. Around the same time, the first titles for game consoles were published. The young company was finally spun off from the group by Baur in 2007.

In 2004 dtp published the adventure games Black Mirror and Runaway: A Road Adventure . After initial success with adventures, from the end of 2005 dtp used the brand label "Anaconda" for its adventure games, which was abandoned in 2008.

In 2007 dtp bought the computer game developer 4Head Studios from Hanover and then renamed it Cranberry Production . The RealU studio was also founded in Singapore in 2007 . RealU's focus was on developing online MMOs . Cranberry Production developed Black Mirror 2 and Crazy Machines for the iPhone , among others .

In 2008 the PC game Das Schwarze Auge: Drakensang , developed by the Berlin studio Radon Labs , was released via dtp , which has sold over 200,000 times and received several awards. In the same year dtp entertainment also took over the developer studio House of Tales from Bremen.

At the beginning of 2010, Drakensang's successor, Drakensang, appeared: Am Fluss der Zeit , which also received very good reviews. The associated expansion Drakensang: Phileasson's Secret , which appeared six months later, only achieved average ratings. In addition, the adventure Gray Matter by the game designer Jane Jensen was released this year , who was best known for the mystery adventure series Gabriel Knight in the 1990s.

At the beginning of 2012, the headquarters of the Cranberry Production studio was relocated from Hanover to Hamburg. In April 2012, the Hamburg District Court (AktZ 67b IN 130/12) opened insolvency proceedings . It was a planned bankruptcy . With a notification from the local court on July 3, 2012, the insolvency administrator announced the insolvency administrator's determination of the mass inadequacy in accordance with Sections 208-210 InsO .
