Jane Elizabeth Jensen (* 28. January 1963 in Palmerton , Pennsylvania as Jane Elizabeth Smith ) is an American writer and game designer . She became known for her adventure series Gabriel Knight from Sierra Entertainment .

Career

Jane Jensen was born as Jane Elizabeth Smith. After completing her degree with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science from Anderson University in Indiana , she initially worked as a systems programmer for Hewlett-Packard . Her game development career began at Sierra On-Line as a writer for Police Quest 3: The Kindred and EcoQuest: The Search for Cetus , both released in 1991. Shortly thereafter, she worked as a designer with Roberta Williams on the development of King's Quest VI: Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow .

Subsequently, Jane Jensen was given the main responsibility for a game project for the first time and, as is usual with Sierra under Ken Williams, also the freedom to implement her own ideas. The finished game was released in 1993 as Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers . The dark story, based on supernatural powers, differed significantly from the previous Sierra Adventures, but received very good press reviews, and the two American game magazines Computer Gaming World and Computer Games Strategy Plus awarded Gabriel Knight the title Adventure of the Year ( Adventure Game of the Year ). A second Gabriel Knight Mystery Adventure followed in 1995 as The Beast Within: A Gabriel Knight Mystery and was even named Game of the Year by Computer Gaming World . Not only the plot of the games, but also the accompanying novels for the first two parts came from Jane Jensen's pen. 1999 followed with Gabriel Knight 3: Blood of the Sacred, Blood of the Damned still a third part.

In the same year, however, Jane Jensen left the company after Sierra had been bought three years earlier and ended up with the French Vivendi group via several intermediate positions . In the same year she published the mystery thriller Millennium Rising , her first independent book, which was later reissued under the title Judgment Day . Her science fiction novel Dante's Equation , published in 2003, was nominated for the Philip K. Dick Award . From 2003 Jensen worked on several games for the casual games provider Oberon Media , which she herself co-founded. In 2011 she left the company and initially worked for Zynga . Together with the German game publisher dtp entertainment , she designed the adventure Gray Matter , which was published in 2010 after a delay and a change in the developer studio from the Hungarian Tonuzuba to the French company Wizarbox .

Jane Jensen is married to the former Sierra game composer Robert Holmes, who wrote the music to accompany the Gabriel Knights series and Gray Matter , among other things . She lives with him and his previous marriage daughter Raleigh on a farm in Mount Joy, Lancaster County , Pennsylvania . There the couple founded their own development studio called Pinkerton Road in 2012 and announced that they would in future develop games within the framework of a model known as Community Supported Gaming (CSG), comparable to the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) established in agriculture. With this announcement, a campaign started on the crowdfunding platform kickstarter.com to finance the first year of the new studio through the acquisition of CSG members and to enable the development of a first game. The campaign was successful and exceeded the project's target of US $ 300,000 by more than a third.

Jensen has been publishing romance novels with gay protagonists under the pseudonym Eli Easton since 2013 . Jensen said she first discovered the genre as a reader in 2012, and while she would have had trouble writing straight love stories, writing gay stories was easy for her. By the end of 2016 she had published 23 novels and novels as Eli Easton.

In addition to the release of the Kickstarter funded game Möbius: Empire Rising , Jensen announced that in the course of 2014, a new edition of the first Gabriel Knight will be released as an anniversary edition. It was released in October 2014.
