The Cursed Crusade

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Cursed Crusade is a video game by French game developer Kylotonn , published in North America by Atlus and in Europe by dtp entertainment . The game was released in September 2011.

action

The Cursed Crusade is set in the Middle Ages at the time of the Fourth Crusade in the 12th century. In this scenario, players as Denz de Bayle and Esteban Noviembre take up arms and can play the game alone or together via split screen or online. If there is no human player, the AI takes control of the thief Esteban, who can be given orders. In the course of the 5 chapters with a total of 36 missions, the player also travels to historical sites such as Constantinople , Zara , Venice and Syria .

Denz de Bayle, the main character of the game, joins the Fourth Crusade of the Knights Templar - for him the only way to find his father, who has been missing for eight years. It is only with his help that Denz can oppose his uncle, who murdered his mother and usurped the de Bayles' family property.

During an attack by Boniface de Montferrat on Castle de Biron in southwest France, Denz meets the thief Esteban Noviembre. Together they learn that Boniface is looking for a relic of the Templars that is rumored to be in the care of Jean de Bayle - Denz's father. De Montferrat wants to use Denz to track down his father in order to forcibly steal the Templar relic from him.

Denz and Esteban are driven by more than just the desire to find Jean de Bayle: Both are subject to the Templar curse, which gives them incredible power in battle, but at the same time means eternal damnation after death. By participating in the crusade, they hope to purify their souls and thus free them from the curse.

The Templar Curse

Both Denz and Esteban became slaves of eternal damnation through the Templar curse, which apparently arbitrarily looks for its victims. At the push of a button, Denz and Esteban switch to Hell Vision . The world is then immersed in a kind of vision of hell and Denz and Esteban also change: Their attacks can then neither be parried nor stopped with a counterstrike and enemy tanks are easier to destroy. But also the weapons of the two heroes break much more easily under the power they have here. In Hell Vision , Denz and Esteban have 4 additional skills, such as burning the souls of enemies or redeeming them. Denz and Esteban shouldn't stay too long in Hell Vision, because with every second their soul burns a little more until they lose their own humanity in the pursuit of devilish power.

Game principle and technology

In terms of gameplay, it is a pure hack-and-slay game.

reception

GameStar magazine wrote that the game concept had great potential, but that it had not been used. In his opinion, the game looks unfinished, graphics and animations are no longer up-to-date. The editors rated the game with 58 out of 100 points. The game was released on October 25, 2011 and received poorly favorable reviews across the board, with a rating of 37/100 (Xbox 360) and 44/100 (PS 3) on Metacritic .

GamingXP gave a positive review: "... The bottom line is a fun Hack'n'Slay that collects many plus points with its upgrade mechanics, the curse mode and the multitude of weapons ...".

Awards
