Black Mirror 3

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Black Mirror 3 is the third part of a point-and-click adventure series that began with Black Mirror and follows on from the credits of the predecessor Black Mirror 2 . Like the second part, the game was developed by the Hanover-based studio Cranberry Production and came onto the market in February 2011 via dtp entertainment for PCs with the Microsoft Windows operating system .

action

The plot of Black Mirror 3 continues seven minutes after the events of Black Mirror 2 and continues the plot about the family curse of the English noble house of the Gordons. After Darren Michaels found out at the end of the second part that he was in reality Samuel Gordon's son Adrian, he was taken into custody in front of his family's still burning castle, completely disturbed. He is accused of being responsible for the fire and death of innocent people. However, since an anonymous person pays the bail for him, he is released after three weeks. When trying to prove his innocence, he begins to doubt it himself. Defending himself from the beginning madness, he only has one choice: to break the curse of the Gordon family or to become his youngest victim.

Game principle and technology

The gameplay of Black Mirror 3 corresponds to that of its immediate predecessor: 3D characters act in front of pre-rendered 2D surroundings, the player character Darren Michaels is controlled by point-and-click . The game principle mainly consists of interaction with the environment, characters and objects. Michaels can talk to people or examine, use and, if necessary, record objects. In order to advance in the storyline, the player must solve various logic and combination puzzles.

Production notes

The music comes from the Periscope Studio Hamburg .

On October 19, 2010, the Black Mirror Collectors Edition was announced. The collector's edition was limited to 3,333 pieces worldwide and contained all three series parts on one DVD each. In addition to the soundtrack “Best of Black Mirror”, a double-sided A3 poster, a greeting postcard from Biddeford and an extensive art book, the edition contains exclusive content that has not yet been published.

In April 2014, the meanwhile insolvent dtp Entertainment sold the trademark rights to Black Mirror to the Swedish publisher Nordic Games .

The international ratings for Black Mirror 3 were average, but slightly better than for the direct predecessor (Metacritic: 75 out of 100). The ratings of German magazines were on average higher (Critify: 81 out of 100).

“The fact that Black Mirror 3 gets down to business faster than the second part is the biggest improvement. Otherwise, the dark adventure plays like a pure continuation without fresh impulses or even qualitative leaps. "

- Bodo Naser : 4Players

“The bottom line is Black Mirror 3 is an exciting horror adventure with weaknesses in the staging and not always entirely logical, but many great puzzles, located somewhere between“ I click dizzy ”and“ brain burn ”. The initially profound story is entertaining across the board, but it has significantly more potential. "

- Michael Trier : Gamestar
