The Hovde Glacier is a small glacier on the Ingrid Christensen Coast of Princess Elisabeth Land in East Antarctica . It flows into the southeast section of Prydz Bay immediately west of the Brattstranda cliff . Its small glacier tongue extends close to the island of Hovden .
The first mapping took place during the Lars Christensen Expedition in 1936/37 , during which the island of Hovden (in English Hovde Island ) was named. The American cartographer John Hobbie Roscoe (1919-2007) mapped it in 1952 using aerial photographs of Operation Highjump (1946-1947). Roscoe named it as Hovde Ice Tongue (translated as Hovde ice tongue ) in reference to the name of the island of the same name. The current toponym became established in 1956.
