Howhannes Shiraz
Howhannes Schiras ( Armenian Հովհաննես Շիրազ Hovhannes Širaz ; actually: Howhannes Onig Garabedian ; born April 27, 1915 in Alexandrapol , Russian Empire , today Armenia ; † March 14, 1984 in Yerevan ) was an Armenian poet .
life and work
Howhannes Shiraz was born in Alexandrapol, now Gyumri , during the Armenian genocide .
Shiraz's first work, published in 1935, is called Early Spring . The novelist Atrpet later gave the talented poet the nickname “Shiraz” and justified this with: “The poems of this young man smell as if they were the roses of Shiraz, fresh and covered with dew”. The Iranian city of Shiraz is famous for its poets and roses.
Most of Shiraz's publications were poetry. His son Ara Schiras (* 1941) is a sculptor , his late son Sipan Schiras was a painter, poet and sculptor.
