Abdullah Frères
Abdullah Frères was a photo studio in the Ottoman capital Constantinople , which existed in the Pera district from 1858 to 1900 . The staff were the court photographers of the Turkish sultan.
The Armenian brothers vicen (also Vhichen) (1820-1902), Hovsep (1830-1908) and Kevork Abdullah (1839-1918) were in 1863 Hoffotografen the Ottoman Sultan Abdulaziz followed by Abdulhamid II. They were mandated to manage the tughra (the Monogram) of the sultans. The brothers ran a studio in Cairo between 1866 and 1895 . The brothers sold the business to the Sébah & Joallier company in Constantinople in 1900 .
In the years from 1880 to 1893, the brothers took photos not only in the various districts of Constantinople such as Pera or Sirkeci , but throughout the Ottoman Empire . These photos are contained in the 51-volume collection of the Ottoman Sultan Abdülhamid II, which he donated to the USA in 1893 and which is now in the Library of Congress .
