How War Came is a 1941 American animated short directed by Paul Fennell .

Raymond Gram Swing reports on the reasons for the outbreak of the Second World War . The main reason he sees the lawlessness of certain states and the inability of the United Nations to do anything about it. In addition to Japan's incursion into Manchuria in 1931, other crimes of the 1930s committed by the warring states are mentioned , including a Hitler caricature announcing his intention to rule the world. Swing ends with a call to the Americans to oppose the perpetrators with strength and courage.

How War Came is based on the book of the same name by Raymond Gram Swing, in which he processed his experiences as a journalist in Germany in 1939. The film was released on November 1, 1941 as the second part of the This Changing World film series ; Part 1, Broken Treaties , came out in 1940.

Awards

How War Came was nominated for an Oscar in the category " Best Animated Short Film " in 1942 , but could not prevail against The Heartless Savior .
