Howard Johnson (alto saxophonist)
Howard Johnson , called "Swan" (* 1905 in Boston ; † 1991 ) was an American swing jazz musician ( alto saxophonist and clarinetist ) .
Live and act
Johnson played with Elmer Snowden and Benny Carter (1933) in the early 1930s . From 1934 until 1939 he played in Teddy Hills Orchestra. Johnson can be heard on his recordings of Uptown Rhapsody , Passinette (1936) and King Porter Stomp (1937). During the band's European tour he made recordings with Dickie Wells : Nobodys Blues But My Own , Hot Club Blues , Dinah (1937). He later worked with Claude Hopkins , Don Redman (1945) and Dizzy Gillespie ( Dizzy Gillespie Big Band , 1946-48).
He should not be confused with the tuba player and baritone saxophonist Howard Johnson, who was born in 1941 .
