Sir Howard Stringer (born February 19, 1942 in Cardiff ) is a British - American manager . He was Chairman, President and CEO of Sony from 2005 to 2012 .

biography

Howard Stringer was born in Cardiff in 1942 to Harry and Marjorie Mary (Pook) Stringer. He graduated from Oxford University. On July 29, 1978, he married Jennifer A. Kinmond Patterson. They have a son named David Ridley together. He emigrated to the USA in 1965. His younger brother, Rob Stringer , is the CEO of Sony Music Label Group. Howard Stringer was beaten on December 31, 1999 by Elizabeth II to Knight Bachelor ("Sir").

Career

Stringer started his career at CBS where he worked as a journalist, producer and senior executive. From 1988 to 1995 he was President of CBS, responsible for the news, sports, entertainment, radio and TV. Stringer joined Sony in May 1997. In June 2005, he became chairman and CEO of Sony and thus also responsible for subsidiaries such as Sony Computer Entertainment , Sony Music Entertainment , Sony Electronics , Sony Pictures Entertainment and Sony Financial Holdings . On April 1, 2009 he also took over the position of President from Ryōji Chūbachi . In 2012, Kazuo Hirai followed him in his management positions at Sony .
