Howard Yates

Howard Yates ( May 3, 1913 - November 8, 1989 ) was an Australian sprinter .

At the British Empire Games in London in 1934 he finished sixth over 100 yards and came fourth with the Australian 4-by-110-yard relay. In 1938 he was sixth over 100 yards at the British Empire Games in Sydney , fifth over 220 yards and won bronze with the Australian 4-by-110-yard relay.

He was twice Australian champion over 220 yards (1934, 1937) and once each over 100 yards (1937) and 440 yards (1936). Over 220 yards he set his personal best of 21.4 s (equivalent to 21.3 s over 200 m ) in the semifinals of the British Empire Games in 1938.
