Howhannes Schiras ( Armenian Հովհաննես Շիրազ Hovhannes Širaz ; actually: Howhannes Onig Garabedian ; born April 27, 1915 in Alexandrapol , Russian Empire , today Armenia ; †  March 14,  1984 in Yerevan ) was an Armenian poet .

life and work

Howhannes Shiraz was born in Alexandrapol, now Gyumri , during the Armenian genocide .

Shiraz's first work, published in 1935, is called Early Spring . The novelist Atrpet later gave the talented poet the nickname “Shiraz” and justified this with: “The poems of this young man smell as if they were the roses of Shiraz, fresh and covered with dew”. The Iranian city ​​of Shiraz is famous for its poets and roses.

Most of Shiraz's publications were poetry. His son Ara Schiras (* 1941) is a sculptor , his late son Sipan Schiras was a painter, poet and sculptor.
