Hoya dischorensis is a plant of the genus of wax flowers ( Hoya ) of the subfamily of asclepiadoideae (Asclepiadoideae).

features

Hoya dischorensis is an epiphytic , climbing plant with thread-like, sparsely branched shoots. The sparsely leafed shoots are flexible, round and bare in cross-section. The spreading leaves are short-stalked, the fleshy petioles, which are runny on top, are 0.5 to 1 cm long. The slightly fleshy leaf blades are elongated-elliptical, 6.5 to 11.5 cm long and 2.8 to 5 cm wide in the middle. They are bare on the top and bottom. The base is blunt to rounded, the apex is long and pointed. The leaf nerve consists of the prominent midrib and 6 to 7 secondary ribs on both sides of the midrib, which usually branch out at the end.

The umbel-shaped inflorescence contains 10 to 15 flowers. The inflorescence stalks are 1 to 1.5 cm long. The very slender, bare flower stalks are up to 2 cm long. The elongated egg-shaped sepals are about 2 mm long and bare on the outside; the apex is blunt. The wheel-shaped, cream-colored yellowish corolla has a diameter of 1.6 cm. The petals are fused almost in the basal half. The egg-shaped petal lobes are 0.5 cm long, the apices are pointed. They are glabrous on the outside, fluffy papillae in the center, and densely tomentose hairy towards the edges; bare to the base. The elongated corolla lobes are spread out almost horizontally. They measure about 3.5 mm from the tip of the inner extension to the end of the outer extension. The inner extension is short and pointed, the outer extension is blunt. The tips are almost flat at the top, the sides are broadly rounded. The inner process is significantly shorter than the anthers. The pollinia are elongated with a broad, hyaline outer edge. They narrow to the caudiculae (stalks of the pollinia). The caudiculae are very short, the corpusculum rhombic and moderately large. The lower end is drawn out in two points.

Similar species

The flowers are reminiscent of Hoya montana Schltr. Its flower is slightly smaller and yellowish-white with a red ring at the base of the corolla. Hoya dischorensis is also closely related to Hoya chunii Schltr. (= Hoya reticulata Schltr. Non Hoya reticulata Moon (1824) nec Hoya reticulata Costantin (1912)), but has a different leaf shape and leaf nerve. The hairiness of the flowers is also different. The corolla lobes are much wider and the corollas are cream-yellowish.

Geographical distribution and habitat

The species occurs above Djishungari in the Waria region in the Dischore Mountains in Papua New Guinea . It was worse there in June blooming on trees at 900 m above sea level.

Taxonomy

The taxon was described by Rudolf Schlechter in 1913 . The holotype is kept under the number Schlechter # 19834 in the herbarium of the Botanical Garden Berlin . The Plants of the World online database accepts the taxon as a valid species.
