Hrvatski demokratski savez Slavonije i Baranje , short: HDSSB (German: Croatian Democratic Alliance of Slavonia and Baranjas) is a right-wing conservative party in the Croatian region of Slavonia .

history

The founding initiative came from the politician Branimir Glavaš , one of the former members of the Croatian party Hrvatska demokratska zajednica (HDZ) (in German: Croatian Democratic Community ) after he left the HDZ because of his conflict with the chairman of the HDZ and the prime minister, Ivo Sanader , regarding the "Viktor Lenac Affair" and the distribution of funds has been excluded from the state budget. Glavaš was not satisfied with the development program for Slavonia . He called for more investment in the region's economy. After separating from the HDZ, he wanted to found a party that would campaign for these goals. He immediately began his campaign, which was successful in Slavonia. In the meantime, Glavaš was charged with war crimes during the war in Yugoslavia. He has been charged with murdering Serb civilians in Osijek in 1991. After the parliament lifted his parliamentary immunity, he was taken into custody. Glavaš described the proceedings against him as politically motivated.

On October 8, 2005, the founding congress of the HDSSB took place in the Croatian National Theater in Osijek . More than 850 participants were present at the congress. Branimir Glavaš, a member of the Croatian Parliament and one of the founders of the party, was elected as the first chairman of the newly formed party and the party's statute was adopted. The HDSSB was officially registered as a party on May 6, 2006.
