Huang Kuo-chang ( Chinese  黃國昌 , Pinyin Huáng Guóchāng ; born August 19, 1973 in Xizhi , Taiwan ) is a Taiwanese scientist, politician and former chairman of the New Power Party .

Huang studied law at Taiwan National University , where he graduated in 1995. After working as a lawyer for two years, he went to the USA to study and earned a master's degree and a doctorate from Cornell University . From 2006 to 2015 he was a member of the Academia Sinica (Academy of Sciences of the Republic of China in Taiwan).

After engagements in various grassroots movements in Taiwan, Huang appeared in public , especially during the sunflower movement in March and April 2014, and joined the New Power Party (NPP) that resulted from the movement , as its chairman from September 13, 2015 acted. In the Taiwanese general election on January 16, 2016 , Huang won constituency 12 in New Taipei and is now represented as a member of parliament. In January 2019, Huang announced that he would not run again for the office of party chairman of the NPP in February of the same year in order to “focus on other tasks in the area of ​​political reform in Taiwan”.
