Huastekian language area in Mexico

Huastekish (Teenek kaaw, Teenek kawintalab; ethnonym Téenek) is an indigenous language in Mexico , spoken by the Huaxteks . It belongs to the Maya languages and is the only one of them to have its language area far removed from its sister languages.

Huastekisch is spoken by over 170,000 people, particularly in the states of San Luis Potosí and Veracruz and, to a lesser extent, in Tamaulipas .
