Huayang Jiao ( Chinese  华阳礁 , Pinyin Cuarteron Reef or Cuarteron Reef ; Vietnamese : đá Châu Viên ; Philippine Calderon Reef ) is a reef at the eastern end of the chain of the four London Reefs (Yinqing Qunjiao, Chinese  尹庆群礁 ) of the Nansha Islands in the South China Sea , which has been controlled by the People's Republic of China since 1988 . Huayang Jiao is administered by the People's Republic of China as part of the city of Sansha in its Hainan Province ; the Philippines , Vietnam and the Republic of China are claiming the island as part of the territorial conflicts in the South China Sea .

Huayang Jiao is 5.4 km long in an east-west direction and a maximum of 1.4 km wide. Except for a few rocks in the north, which protrude 1.2 to 1.5 m from the water at high tide, the atoll only dries out at low tide. Extensive land reclamation began in March 2014. In the meantime an island with an area of about 0.25 km² has been heaped up, making it - after Yongshu Jiao - the second largest of the Nansha Islands controlled by the PRC.

There are quays and some structures (stilts) of the Chinese Navy , which are constantly manned and armed with anti- aircraft guns and artillery . There are also extensive search radar and radio systems.
