David Hubert Boothby Chesshyre , CVO (born June 22, 1940 ) is an English genealogist and heraldist. As Clarenceux King of Arms , he was the second highest coat of arms of England, Wales and Northern Ireland until he was 70 . In 2015 it was revealed that he had molested a child in the 1990s.

Life

Chesshyre comes from an old family. He attended The King's School, Canterbury , and then studied modern languages at Trinity College of the University of Cambridge and education at Christ Church College of Oxford University .

He was involved in the investiture of Prince Charles to Prince of Wales in 1969 in Caernarfon Castle . Chesshyre began his heraldic career in 1970 as Rouge Croix Pursuivant of Arms in Ordinary , most of which time he was on the staff of Sir Anthony Wagner , who was then Garter Principal King of Arms . Eight years later he was promoted to the Chester Herald of Arms in Ordinary . 1995 Chesshyre rose to the coat of arms king as Norroy and Ulster King of Arms and two years later in his office as Clarenceux King of Arms. He retired on June 22, 2010.

On March 14, 2019, during a public hearing, the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse learned that Chesshyre had molested a child in the 1990s. Thereupon there was a public hearing before the Crown Court in 2015, which could not be continued due to the inadequate health condition. Although the jury attributed the deeds to him, he was not convicted.

Chesshyre is Commander of the Royal Victorian Order . He is a member of the Society of Antiquaries of London and the Heraldry Society . Until 2004 he held the office of Secretary of the Order of the Garter.
