Hubert Flattinger

Hubert Flattinger (born November 21, 1960 in Innsbruck ) is an Austrian writer, illustrator and painter. Hubert Flattinger lives in the Horn / Lower Austria district. He is married to the graphic designer Ines Flattinger and has two sons and two daughters.

Life

Hubert Flattinger attended the Higher Federal Training and Research Institute for Graphic Arts in Vienna. After several excursions and a. as an asphalt artist, animal keeper and advertising manager for a computer company, he finally found his main occupation as a journalist, book and theater author.

From 1994 to 2009 Flattinger was the editor in charge of the children's page of the Tiroler Tageszeitung, for which he also made countless contributions as an illustrator. In collaboration with his wife Ines, Flattinger designed the game and puzzle pages for the “Kleine Kinderzeitung” of the “Kleine Zeitung” Graz. Since 2010 he has been teaching children's and youth literature at the Institute for Social Pedagogy in Stams. Flattinger was awarded the Austrian Mira Lobe scholarship three times: 2004 for “Liftboy”, 2006 for “Baboon” and 2012 for “Superplus - Freckles on the Asphalt”. His picture books have been translated into English, French, Italian, Dutch and Korean.

Hubert Flattinger also wrote several radio plays (“Almost True Stories”) for the Bavarian Radio (Bayern2) in the program “Sonntagshuhn”, directed by Leo Huber.

Exhibitions

  • Flattinger's paintings and illustrations were shown in several exhibitions a. a. seen in Vienna, Innsbruck, Mieming and New Orleans. Flattinger created a number of illustrations for the redesign of the former Franciscan monastery church / historical city information center in Wittenberg.
