Hubert Göbels

Hubert Göbels (born July 17, 1905 in Werden ad Ruhr, † November 2, 1997 in Essen ) was a German educator , children's book collector and author .

Life

Hubert Göbels was born in 1905 as one of four children in Werden ad Ruhr, which is now a district of Essen. After the death of his father in the First World War , he first became a primary school teacher. Later he was a lecturer, founding rector of what was then the Essen University of Education and Professor of Education at the University of Essen . Göbels is the author of numerous books and publisher of reprints of historical books for children and young people, which he found in his extensive collection. Göbels was friends with the children's book author Otfried Preußler , who wrote an obituary for him in the Volkacher Bote in 1997 and called him the “Professor with the Magic Clock”. Hubert Göbels was an honorary doctorate from Essen University and in 1995 he was awarded theOrder of Merit awarded by the State of North Rhine-Westphalia .
