Hubert Krautwurst (born February 21, 1924 , † November 26, 1948 in the Landsberg War Crimes Prison ) was a German SS-Hauptscharführer and was deployed as a command leader in the Buchenwald concentration camp .

Life

Hubert Krautwurst, a member of the SS , was deployed from January 17, 1942 to April 10, 1945 in the Buchenwald concentration camp as the commanding officer for the gardening and sewage treatment plant. After the end of the war, Krautwurst was arrested and, as the youngest accused in the main Buchenwald trial , which took place as part of the Dachau trials , was charged with 30 other accused. Krautwurst was accused of mistreating and killing Allied prisoners. Witness statements weighed heavily on Krautwurst, for example, on May 1, 1942 or 1943, he was said to have knocked out the eye of a prisoner, from which he died. In addition, Krautwurst is said to have drowned two Polish and one Russian prisoners in the septic tank on the same day. During the trial, however, exonerating witnesses testified in favor of Krautwurst that Krautwurst is said to have handed over food rations for heavy workers to the inmates of his detachment. The septic tank designer testified that he had not heard from someone who drowned in the septic tank.

On August 14, 1947, Krautwurst was sentenced to death by hanging . Krautwurst was executed in the Landsberg War Crimes Prison on November 26, 1948, despite several appeals for clemency.
