Huberta Heres

Huberta Heres (born July 25, 1934 in Dresden ; born Huberta von Littrow ) is a German classical archaeologist .

Huberta Heres studied classical archeology with Ludger Alscher at the Humboldt University in Berlin . Heres used the time before travel restrictions were introduced in the GDR to take part in the excavations in Pergamon for three months, for example . Since 1957 she worked for the Antikensammlung of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin , most recently its deputy director until her retirement on September 30, 1998. Her specialty was Greek and Roman sculpture . She was involved in rebuilding the collection of antiquities after the looted Soviet art was repatriated at the end of the 1950s, as well as in re-equipping the Old Museum with the antiques that had been in the western part of the city up to that point. Her most important work is the faithful restoration of the ancient statues in the museum's rotunda . In 1993 Heres was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of Berlin .

She is married to the archaeologist Gerald Heres .
