Hudson Mohawke (* 11. February 1986 in Glasgow as Ross Matthew Birchard ) is a Scottish musician , music producer and DJ . His music can be assigned to the wonky .

Life

Ross Birchard is the son of Los Angeles-born actor Paul Birchard . His father recorded a rap song for the Glasgow Diamonds football team in 1986.

Through his father, Ross Birchard came into contact with hip-hop early on , but was later heavily influenced by British rave music. In the late 1990s he had his first appearances on a university radio station and later also performed live as DJ Itchy . At the DMC UK DJ Championships, he finished second at the age of 17. Together with Mike Slott , he produced the first pieces of music under the project name Heralds of Change , which moved at the intersection of hip-hop and electronica .

In 2007 Birchard applied to the Red Bull Music Academy and was invited to the event in Toronto, Canada , where he met Steve Beckett of Warp Records , who was also giving a lecture there. Two years later, Hudson Mohawke signed a contract with Warp Records, where his debut album Butter was released on October 26, 2009 . In the following years several singles and EPs appeared on Warp Records.

In 2012 he founded the TNGHT project together with the Canadian musician Lunice , whom he had already met in 2008 on a North American tour of the LuckyMe label . In July 2012 the EP TNGHT was released , in April 2013 the single Acrylics .

Also in 2012, Hudson Mohawke began working with Kanye West . On the GOOD Music label compilation Cruel Summer he appeared alongside Kanye West and other artists as a producer. On January 17, 2013, Hudson Mohawke announced that he had signed a contract as a producer with GOOD Music, although he wanted to continue his collaboration with Warp Records.

On June 16, 2015, Hudson Mohawke's second album Lantern was released on Warp Records. In 2016 he produced the soundtrack for the video game Watch Dogs 2 , which was also released via Warp Records under the title Ded Sec - Watch Dogs 2 (OST) .
