Hugh Cross
Hugh Cross (born 1904 in Oliver Springs , Tennessee , † 1970 ) was an American country singer. In the late 1920s he was a member of the country band Gid Tanner and his Skillet Lickers, and during the 1930s he was a member of the WLS National Barn Dance .
Career
Hugh Cross made his first recordings with his wife on Columbia Records in the late 1920s. His first success was as a regular guest player of the Skillet Lickers. With the guitarist of this band, Riley Puckett , he was able to land his first hit in 1929 with Red River Valley . In 1930 he became a member of the National Barn Dance in Chicago and continued to record. He also worked with the Girls Of The Golden West , the Drifting Pioneers and the Cumberland Ridge Ramblers . In 1935 he moved from the National Barn Dance to the WWVA Jamboree in Wheeling, West Virginia. Together with Roy Acuff , he wrote the title Don't Make Me Go To Bed And I'll Be Good in the early 1940s . Hugh Cross performed publicly until his death in the mid-1960s.
