Hugo Krabbe (born February 3, 1857 in Leiden , † February 4, 1936 there ) was a Dutch constitutional lawyer.

Life

Hugo was the son of pastor Christiaan Krabbe (born October 24, 1807 in Voorburg; † August 21, 1886 in Leiden) and his second wife Maria Adriana Machteld Scholten, who was married on September 13, 1854 in Leiden (born December 10, 1816 in Vleuten; † May 17, 1905 in The Hague). He attended the higher middle school and the city ​​high school in Leiden . On September 29, 1874, he enrolled at the University of Leiden , where he completed a law degree. On July 2, 1883 he received his doctorate in Leiden with the thesis De burgerlijke staatsdienst in Nederland (German: The civil service in the Netherlands ) to the doctor of rights. Then worked as an employee from 1883 in the province of Gelderland and from 1886 in the province of Holland.

In 1888 he became an authorized signatory in the Dutch Ministry of the Interior, where he drafted a Dutch electoral law. On February 10, 1894, he received a full professorship for encyclopedia of law, constitutional and administrative law at the University of Groningen , which he took up with the introductory speech De werkkring van den Staat (German: The offices of the state ). On December 7, 1907, he was appointed professor of constitutional, administrative and international law at the University of Leiden, which he did on March 4, 1908, Professor Leiden with the introductory speech De idee der persoonlijkheid in de staatsleer (German: The idea of ​​personality in political science ).

He also participated in the organizational tasks of the university and was rector of the Alma Mater in the academy year 1923/24 , for which he gave the rector's speech De innerlijke waarde de wet (German: The inner value of the law ) on February 8, 1924 . Krabbe had mainly worked on theoretical issues of constitutional law and was appointed Knight of the Order of the Dutch Lion . On May 25, 1927 Krabbe gave his farewell lecture and was retired on September 10, 1927 by royal resolution. Almost nine years later he died of a long illness.

Krabbe married on September 16, 1886 in Rotterdam with Adriana Petronella Anna Regina Tavenraat (born April 1, 1854 in Materborn / Germany; † December 21, 1942 in The Hague), the daughter of the landscape painter Johannes Tavenraat (born March 20, 1809 in Rotterdam; † April 2, 1881 ibid.) And his wife Anna Catharina van Dijck (* Meersel / Antwerp † April 15, 1855 in Cleve), who married on September 16, 1841 in Meersel / Belgium.
