Boethos from Marathon

Boethos of Marathon ( Greek  Βόηθος Boethos ; † 120 / .. 119 BC ) was an ancient Greek philosopher in the age of Hellenism . He was a member of the Platonic Academy in Athens .

Boethos came from Marathon in Attica . He was the son of an otherwise unknown Hermagoras and roughly contemporary of the 214/213 BC. Born philosopher Carneades of Cyrene . His teachers were Ariston and Eubulus; Eubulus was a student of Lakydes . Boethos is said to have become the head of a school. He died during the archonate of Eumachus, that is, 120/119 BC. BC, in the month of Thargelion. So he must have gotten very old. Nothing is known about his teaching. The only source of information about him is a report from the Chronicle of Apollodorus , which is in the Academica (Academicorum index) of Philodemos is handed down.
