Hugues de Saint-Pol

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hugues de Saint-Pol (also Hughes , lat . Hugo de Sancto Paulo , * before 1122; † around 1157) was a French nobleman and Grand Master of Saint Lazarus .

He was the second-born son of Count Hugo III. from St. Pol ( House Candavene ). When his father founded the Cercamp monastery in 1137 , he is documented as a witness. When the father died in 1145, his older brother Enguerrand inherited the county of Saint-Pol .

Hugues probably embarked on a spiritual career. Around 1155 he stayed in Jerusalem and was elected Grand Master of the Order of Lazarus.

When he died around 1158, Raymond du Puy , who had been Grand Master of the Order of St. John since 1120 , was elected as his successor.
